Awake, my dear.
Be kind to your sleeping heart.
Take it out into the vast fields of light
And let it breathe.
Say,
"Love,
Give me back my wings,
Lift me,
Lift me nearer."
Say to the sun and the moon,
Say to our dear Friend,
"I will take you up now, Beloved,
On that wonderful Dance you promised!"
-Hafiz
I would like to share something tonight besides other people's poetry. For days, though, I have been so tangled up in my thoughts that I have not had the clarity to write. I share this Hafiz poem because I need the reminder to take my heart out into the vast fields of light and let it breathe.
Sometimes I stay up late at night and pace and cry and long for comfort. And I forget again and again that comfort (or better yet, joy!) does not come from getting what I want, but from appreciating deeply what is offered.
